Flood Studies and Floodplain Management
WMAwater is a leader in flood studies and floodplain management in Australia. We have been at the forefront of the NSW floodplain management process since the initial stages of its development in the early 1980’s, and we have taken our skills built from this experience to clients around Australia. We have significant credentials and track record in producing practical floodplain management plans.
We have successfully delivered flood studies for over 65 different local Councils in both urban and rural areas across the state. We have progressed many of these studies through the Risk Management Study and Plan stage. We have a high degree of familiarity with requirements of key stakeholders such as state government departments and the State Emergency Services (SES).
We are proficient with the major hydrologic and hydraulic modelling packages, including TUFLOW, SOBEK, Mike, RMA, HEC-RAS, RUBICON, RAFTS, DRAINS, WBNM, RORB, and more. This gives us the flexibility to work with the most appropriate software for a specific project, meaning that we can deliver projects efficiently and tailor solutions to our clients’ requirements. We have developed in house queuing software to make more efficient use of our software licenses, enabling us to deliver studies efficiently and within short timeframes.
We have completed hundreds of site-specific hydraulic modelling and flood impact assessments for private developers and other government clients. We constantly review and update our methodology to use the latest technologies and employ best practice approaches for flood investigations. Our clients can be confident that our solutions are robust and defensible.
Our long history of work and high level of technical expertise in this area means that our clients can be confident that we understand their issues and can deliver optimum solutions to enable them to best manage their floodplain risks.
